About ReCreativity

ReCreativity is born of a passion for craftsmanship. Its founder, James Doran-Webb, has spent a lifetime working with driftwood and long-dead wood, and over the last twenty years has established himself as the world’s leading Animalier in this unique genre.

Since childhood, James has been immersed in antiques and the arts. His early years were uniquely shaped by accompanying his parents on their travels around the world in search of art and antiques, and by spending countless hours in their workshops watching carpenters restore treasures from ages past.

As a young man, he worked alongside a legendary figure in the Southeast Asian rattan furniture industry, where he designed, built, and sourced modern masterpieces for a leading U.S. importer of high-end rattan furniture. Alongside this, James has nurtured a lifelong hobby of crafting furniture and home accessories from recycled materials. Over the last twenty-five years, this passion has matured into a practice of creating striking one-off pieces for friends, family, and collectors.

Building on the techniques he pioneered in creating his long-dead wood sculptures, almost all ReCreativity pieces are designed for outdoor use. By incorporating recycled marine-grade stainless steel, weather-resistant fixings, and welded structures hidden within the wood, each piece is engineered to withstand the elements and endure every bit as well as their sculptural counterparts. His unique outdoor lighting utilises IP68 rated light fittings and 12V LED lighting to ensure they are as safe as their indoor counterparts.

The philosophy behind each design is to pursue the concept without compromise. While the outcome may sometimes be uncommercial, unrepeatable, or even—dare we say—impractical, every piece is unquestionably unique, eclectic, and original. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, each creation is built to endure as a modern classic. To the discerning eye, James’ creations are refreshingly distinctive and irresistibly desirable.
