Furniture Care

Caring for Your ReCreativity Furniture

Each ReCreativity piece is individually handcrafted using reclaimed long-dead driftwood, metal, glass, mirror and other natural materials. Variations in texture, colour, grain, movement and surface character are part of the unique nature of the work and should be celebrated as part of its story.

With sensible care and positioning, your furniture and sculptural pieces will age beautifully over time.

General Care

  • Dust regularly using a soft dry cloth or feather duster.

  • Clean spills immediately to prevent marking or moisture penetration.

  • Avoid placing hot items directly on surfaces.

  • Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, bleach, ammonia or harsh chemicals.

  • Use coasters, placemats and protective pads where appropriate.

  • Lift furniture when moving rather than dragging across floors.

  • Use felt pads under furniture legs to protect floors.

  • Avoid excessive weight, impact or misuse beyond intended domestic or commercial use.

Placement & Environment

Our furniture is designed primarily for interior use unless specifically stated otherwise.

To preserve the longevity of natural materials:

  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which may gradually alter colour and finish.

  • Keep furniture away from excessive humidity, standing water or persistent damp conditions.

  • Avoid placing pieces directly beside strong heat sources such as radiators, fireplaces or air-conditioning vents.

  • Natural movement within wood may occur due to seasonal temperature and humidity changes.

For outdoor or semi-outdoor placement, covered and protected environments are strongly recommended.

Driftwood Surfaces

Our driftwood is reclaimed from naturally weathered long-dead wood and individually assembled by hand. Small cracks, texture changes, knots and natural irregularities are inherent characteristics of the material.

Natural Finish Surfaces

Furniture surfaces where the natural wood is exposed, or uncoated, benefit from:

  • Dusting gently with a soft dry cloth.

  • Avoiding excessive moisture, as natural wood may absorb water and stain.

  • Not using oils or waxes unless explicitly advised by product-specific guidelines.

Urethane Finished Surfaces

Furniture finished with a urethane top coat benefits from:

  • Gentle cleaning with a soft slightly damp cloth.

  • Drying surfaces immediately after cleaning.

  • Avoiding prolonged standing moisture or wet objects.

Do not use silicone sprays, wax polishes or oil-based furniture cleaners unless specifically advised.

Metal Components

Stainless Steel & Aluminium

  • Wipe with a soft cloth and mild soapy water if required.

  • Dry thoroughly after cleaning to maintain appearance.

  • Avoid chlorine-based cleaners or abrasive compounds.

Pewter

Pewter naturally develops a soft aged patina over time.

  • Clean using a soft dry cloth.

  • If necessary, use mild soap and warm water sparingly.

  • Avoid metal polishes unless specifically intended for pewter.

Glass & Mirror

  • Clean using a quality non-abrasive glass cleaner and soft lint-free cloth.

  • Avoid spraying cleaner directly onto timber edges or joins.

  • Do not place excessive weight or sharp impacts onto glass surfaces.

Fabric & Sailcloth Elements

Fabric, sailcloth and upholstered components should be cared for gently to preserve their texture, colour and structure over time. This includes seating, cushions, lampshades and decorative textile elements.

General Care

  • Dust regularly using a soft brush attachment or lint-free cloth.

  • Vacuum upholstered surfaces gently using a soft upholstery nozzle.

  • Light brushing may help maintain the natural texture of woven fabrics and sailcloth.

Cleaning & Spills

  • Blot spills immediately using a clean dry cloth. Do not rub.

  • Where necessary, wipe lightly with a soft damp cloth using mild soap diluted in water.

  • Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, solvents or abrasive cleaning products.

  • Allow fabrics to air dry naturally and avoid direct heat sources such as hairdryers or radiators.

  • Professional upholstery cleaning is recommended for deeper cleaning or difficult stains.

Placement & Protection

  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which may gradually fade fabrics and natural fibres.

  • Keep fabrics away from excessive moisture and damp environments.

  • Avoid contact with sharp objects or rough materials that may snag or damage woven surfaces.

Natural Ageing

Some gentle creasing, softening and natural ageing of fabric and sailcloth surfaces may occur over time and are considered part of the character of the material.

Outdoor & Garden Pieces

For outdoor furniture and sculptural objects:

  • Covered placement is strongly recommended.

  • Remove standing water where possible.

  • During extreme weather conditions, storage or protective covers are advisable.

  • Natural weathering and patina formation may occur and are considered part of the evolving character of the materials.

Electrical Components

Lighting and electrical fittings should be handled with care to ensure safe and reliable operation over time.

  • Always switch off and unplug electrical items before cleaning or maintenance.

  • Keep electrical components dry and free from excessive dust or moisture.

  • Clean surrounding metal, glass or finished surfaces gently using a soft dry microfibre cloth.

  • Avoid the use of sprays, liquids or abrasive cleaners directly on electrical fittings.

  • Any repairs, rewiring or replacement of electrical components should be carried out by a qualified technician only.

Natural Variations

Because every piece is handcrafted from reclaimed and natural materials, no two items will ever be identical. Variations in colour, grain, shape, texture and finish are intentional features of the work and not considered defects.

These organic differences are central to the individuality and authenticity of each creation.
